Disney Fairies: The Official Site

You can find a lot more information about Disney Fairies and the Tinker Bell movie by visiting Disney's official website. You'll need to have Flash enabled before you can see anything, though.

You'll find concept pictures for the movie, learn more about Tinker Bell's friends, tour Pixie Hollow, and get a peek at some the Disney Fairy books. The activities will mostly appeal to kids, or anyone who's a kid-at-heart.

Create a Fairy

If you visit Disney's official website for the Tinker Bell movie, you'll find a section where you can create, customize, and name your own fairies. You can create up to three. However, you'll need to create an account before you can get started.

You can choose a special ability for your fairy, but the most fun is choosing your fairy's appearance and giving her a cute outfit. You can also decorate a house for her once you're finished.

Apart from printing out your fairy, I'm not sure what all you can do with her. However, apparently you can "visit" other fairies people have made, add them as friends, and leave messages for them.

The Water Fairy

Silvermist is calm and peace-loving. She usually steps in to mediate when fights break out between her fairy friends. She has a very soothing influence and always tries to look on the bright side of life.

She has the ability to control and manipulate water.

Meet Iridessa

The Light Fairy

Iridessa is the smartest and most disciplined fairy in Pixie Hollow. She sometimes butts heads with Tinker Bell, who in Iridessa's opinion doesn't take her studies seriously enough.

Her power is the ability to control light. She can bend and shift it to her will.

Tinker Bell Game for Nintendo DS

Tinker Bell and the other Disney fairies are getting their own game for the Nintendo DS. It sounds like you get to play Tinker Bell, explore the world of Pixie Hollow, and meet up with pixie friends like Iridessa and Silvermist.

It will be a while before this game comes out. You should be able to get it around the holidays.

Yes, there's also a Disney Fairies magazine, but unfortunately it's not available in the United States. It's sold in other countries such as Italy and Russia.

The good news is, you can often find some copies on eBay. Some of them are printed in English!

Pixie Hollow

The Home of the Fairies

Pixie Hollow is a magical place, as you would expect. It can only be reached through a portal behind a waterfall in Never Land.

The fairies who live in Pixie Hollow make their homes in flowers, tree trunks, and other natural places. They like to be near sunlight or streams.

At the very center of Pixie Hollow is the Pixie Dust tree, the source of all Pixie Dust. Although Pixie Dust is the secret to a fairy's power, only fairies who understand their purpose and have been properly trained can use Pixie Dust.

Fairy Mary is a plump, matronly fairy. She's the fairies' teacher, and she flits around like a hummingbird trying to keep everything under control.

Though she might seem like a bit of a wet blanket, she means well. She cares about her fairy students.

Of course, you already know Tinker Bell! She's sassy, hot-tempered, impatient, but fiercely loyal. You don't want to be on her bad side, but once you earn her trust, you couldn't ask for a better friend.

It turns out Tink is very good at fixing things and solving problems. She's known as the Pots and Kettles fairy, since she's good at repairing them. (She's a tinker, get it?)

Tinker Bell is a bit of an outcast in Pixie Hollow, maybe because of that temper of hers.

We all know the spunky little fairy from Peter Pan, Tinker Bell. She's been a popular Disney icon for years. Well, lately Disney has expanded Tinker Bell's world: You can buy toys and books about Tinker Bell and all her other fairy friends. Disney is even releasing a Tinker Bell movie this fall.

Ew, Another Direct-to-Video Disney Movie?

My first reaction when I heard about the Tinker Bell movie was negative. Great. Yet another cheesy direct-to-video movie milking the success of a Disney classic until all the magic is gone.

After doing more research, I think that this could end up being one of the better things that Disney has churned out in a while. Here's why:

When Pixar executive John Lasseter saw what Disney was working on, it really put him in a foul mood. Lasseter complained that the Tinker Bell movie was "virtually unwatchable." Because of Lasseter's involvement, the movie's release was delayed for a year so that it could get a major overhaul.

Disney had to scrap 90% of the original story. It's thought that Tinker Bell may have ended up costing as much to make as a feature film like Cars!

Since John Lasseter of Pixar got involved in the Tinker Bell movie, I for one am very curious to see this movie when it comes out.
